China’s gay massage parlor owner has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of drug trafficking and prostitution, local media reported on Sunday.
The owner, named by state media as Wang Jing, also faced the possibility of facing up to 15 years in jail.
Prosecutors said Wang, who was arrested in January and is currently on trial, bought fake massage oils at the centre, which he operated in the city of Dalian, and distributed them on the black market.
They said the centre was run by Wang and that he was involved in a network of drug dealers.
In an interview with the state-run Global Times newspaper, Wang said he was not involved in drug dealing but that he had been caught red-handed and was being punished for his role in the scandal.
“I didn’t sell fake oils,” Wang said.
“The real owners were my friends and family members.
I am very sorry that I caused so much pain.”
Wang was accused of operating two massage parls, one in Dalian and one in Zhejiang province.
The two centres were both raided by police in September and October last year.
